“Jeni Packalén (Flosshilde) gives the listener an indulgent experience with her deep and liberated mezzo-soprano.”

“Casting opera is no easy task, certainly those by Wagner, and yet I was astonished by the level of the all-Finnish cast assembled. Good Wagnerian singers do not grow on trees. Except, it would seem, in Finland. Marjukka Tepponen, Mari Palo and Jeni Packalén were absolutely stunning as the Rhinemaidens, singing with wonderful clarity and blending extremely well when singing together. They were also excellent foils for Jukka Rasilainen’s surprisingly lyrical Alberich.”

“What really distinguished tonight’s performance was the quality of the singing. The cast was uniformly excellent. From a trio of Rhinemaidens, that could frankly be singing principal roles at any leading lyric theatre, to Tommi Hakala’s noble Wotan.”

“Alors même que Gidon Kremer, entouré de Ula Ulijona – longtemps premier alto de la toujours impressionnante Kremerata Baltica – et de la remarquable mezzo-soprano Jeni Packalen, apporte avec le bref mais idiomatique Es sang vor langen Jahren sa pierre à une journée centrée sur Arvo Pärt.”
